WASHINGTON (August 18, 2022) – Howard University women's soccer team dropped its season opener against Towson, 1-0, at Greene Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, Towson's Phoebe Canoles scored on an unassisted goal with less than eight minutes remaining.
Despite the loss, junior goalkeeper
Kennedy Jones (Flossmoor, Ill.) had an outstanding performance, filling in for captain
Alayah Hightower (Mitchellville, Md.). The Illinois native tallied seven saves in the loss.
Overall, the Bison took 10 shots, including six on target, while holding possession 52-percent of the time.
Towson's Riley Melendez produced six saves in the win.
With the setback, HU falls to 0-1 while the Tigers improved to 1-0 on the young season.
Sunday (Aug. 21), Howard begins a three-match road swing against CAA opponent Elon. Match time is 2 p.m., live on FloSports.
