JERSEY CITY, N.J. (May 3, 2022) – Howard University softball team closed out the regular season with a split a Saint Peter's (SPU). HU dropped game one, 5-0, but rallied to win the nightcap, 5-1.
GAME TWO (HOWARD 3, SAINT PETER'S 0)
Graduate
Analise De La Roca (San Pedro, Calif.) earned her 13
th win of the season, tossing a complete game while fanning four batters.
Offensively, the Bison managed five runs on five hits.
HU got on the board first after tallying three runs and taking a 3-0 advantage after two innings.
Top six, reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week
Sidney Fletcher delivered a two-run blast over the left center field wall and ballooned the margin to five, 5-0.
In the seventh, SPU's Samantha Miller homered to avoid the shutout, 5-1.
GAME ONE (HOWARD 0, SAINT PETER'S 5)
HU was held to five hits in the opener, led by freshman
Alyssa Vasquez (Downey, Calif.) going 2-of-3 with a double in the loss.
Bottom two, SPU's Olyvia Smith delivered a three-run double down the right field line and put the Peacocks ahead, 3-0.
Next inning, the Peacocks' Samantha Miller added two more runs with a double to right center, 5-0.
Senior
Sydney Hixenbaugh (Millstone, N.J.) threw three scoreless innings in relief while striking out a pair of Peacocks.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On May 11-14, Howard travels to Norfolk, Va., for the MEAC Tournament, hosted by Norfolk State University.
HU (27-21) enters as the No. 2 seed after going 17-4 in league play, the program's best finish since winning back-to-back MEAC Northern Division titles (2009 & 2010).
