CARY, N.C. (April 29, 2022) – Top-seeded Howard University women's tennis team reached the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Title match after blanking No. 5 North Carolina Central (NCCU), 4-0, in the semifinal round.
HU improved to 10-4 overall with the victory while NCCU (5-16) saw its 2022 campaign come to an end.
Newcomers
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) led the charge in doubles play, knocking off NCCU's Kennedy Hill and Maria Picazo, 6-3.
After taking a 1-0 match lead into singles competition, Butcher clinched the Bison's trip to the final with a straight set victory over Picazo (6-0, 6-1).
Saturday (April 30), the Bison face defending MEAC champion No. 3 South Carolina State in the title match. Match time is slated for 9 a.m. at the Cary Tennis Park.
HU is seeking its first MEAC women's title since 1995 (sixth overall).
