CARY, N.C. (April 28, 2022) – No. 3 Howard University men's tennis team dusted off the rust after nearly a three-week layoff to defeat Norfolk State (NSU), 4-0, in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Quarterfinals.
With the win, HU (6-7) advanced to the conference semifinal round while the Spartans' (2-15) season comes to an end.
Howard jumped out to an early match lead, winning a pair of double matches. Freshmen
Tory Bailey (Los Angeles) and
Marcel Dawson (Midland, Ga.) led the way, defeating NSU's Roosevelt Brown and Ibrahim Abbas, 6-1.
In singles play, senior
Kyle Martin (Kingston, Jamaica), sophomore
Hassimiyou Dieng (Dakar, Senegal) and rookie
Daniel Dunac (Washington) won their respective contests in straight sets.
Friday (April 29), the Bison face No. 2 Morgan State at noon.
