WASHINGTON (April 23, 2022) – Howard University football team put on a show during its annual Blue & White Spring Game in front of the Bison faithful at Greene Stadium. Fans had an opportunity to see the offense (white squad) outlasts the defense (blue squad), 45-40, in a fun, entertaining contest.
After a quick 7-on-7 drill to open, the defense forced back-to-back three and outs to begin the scrimmage, but a rushing touchdown from senior quarterback
Quinton Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) got the offense on the board.
The defense responded with three consecutive three and outs and regained the upper hand, but freshman
Eden James (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) found paydirt and cut the margin to one.
The blue squad took its third lead with another three and out, but it was short-lived after sophomore
Jaylon Tolbert (Hollywood, Fla.) found fellow classmate
Bryce Davis (Smyrna, Ga.) in a post route to the end zone.
Moments later, senior
Ray Williams (Detroit) put the defense back on top with a pick-six, but third-year Bison
Jarett Hunter (Mineral, Va.) scored on a rushing TD.
The offense took control after halftime, sparked by a long touchdown pass from Tolbert to sophomore
Nah'Shawn Hezekiah (Orangeburg, S.C.).
The defense cut the deficit to single digits, thanks to another three and out, but a rushing TD from sophomore
Anthony Bedell (North, Ga.) extended the margin back to double digits.
Williams registered his second INT on the day late, but the white team would outlast team blue at the end.
On Aug. 27, HU will make its debut in the annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge, facing Alabama State at Center Parc Stadium in Atlanta.
