WASHINGTON (April 2, 2022) – Howard University women's tennis team edged out long-time rival Morgan State (MSU), 4-3, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown at Banneker Recreation Center.
With the victory, HU (8-2, 5-0 MEAC) extended its win streak to six matches while earning sole possession of the top spot in the conference standings.
Howard took the early match lead, 1-0, after winning two-out-of-three during doubles competition.
Freshmen
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) served as the club's top doubles team, knocking off MSU's Nolwenn Cardoso and Stefania Moysiadi, 6-1.
In singles play, Butcher and Grayson won their respective matches in straight sets while third-year Bison
Hana El Sherif (Cairo, Egypt) outlasted Morgan State's Asmara Rose in three sets (3-6, 6-0, 7-5).
Senior
Kendall Addison (Charlotte, N.C.) was recognized before the contest for her hard work and dedication to the program, receiving gifts from Howard Director of Tennis
Nicholas Askew, family and friends.
On April 9, the Bison face Navy in Annapolis, Md. Match time is set for 10 a.m. The next day (April 10), the women take on Delaware State at Banneker Recreation Center. First-serve at 2 p.m.
