WASHINGTON (April 2, 2022) – Howard University women's lacrosse team fell to Sacred Heart (SHU), 12-2, in a Northeast Conference (NEC) matchup at Greene Stadium.
SHU (3-7, 1-1 NEC) took control of the contest, scoring eight goals on 11 attempts.
In the second quarter, Sydney Colesworthy and Lydia Werlau added a pair of goals and extended the margin to double digits before intermission, 10-0.
Sacred Heart tallied two more goals after halftime and held a 12-goal advantage with less than nine minutes remaining.
With four minutes left in the third, junior
Quai Skeete-Ridley (New Carrollton, Md.) got HU on the board and cut the deficit to 11 after three, 12-1.
In the fourth, third-year Bison
Josie Mallory (Charlottesville, Va.) delivered the lone goal in the period.
Freshman goalie
Anya Waller (King of Prussia, Pa.) registered 11 saves in the loss.
Werlau led the way for Sacred Heart, finishing with four goals (match-high), three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls in the victory.
On April 9, Howard (1-11, 0-3 MEAC) concludes its homestand versus Bryant. First draw is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Greene Stadium.
