Women’s Tennis Picks Up Fifth Straight Win

Bison’s longest win streak since 2015

WASHINGTON (April 1, 2022) – Howard University women's tennis team picked up their fifth consecutive win, topping Coppin State (CSU), 6-1, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown at Banneker Recreation Center.
 
With the victory, HU moved to 7-3 (4-0 MEAC) while securing its longest win streak since 2015.
 
Howard took an early 1-0 match lead after sweeping doubles competition.
 
Freshmen duo Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) and Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) served as the squad's top doubles team, downing Coppin State's Iva Jankovic and Megan Etienne, 6-1.
 
HU won five-out-of-six contests in singles play, led by Butcher with a straight set victory over Kristina Georgeiva (6-1, 6-2).
 
Fellow classmate Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.), along with juniors Alexandra Blackwell (Austin, Texas), Hana El Sherif (Cairo, Egypt) and Yemisi Ifederu (London, England) also earned two-set wins on the afternoon.
 
Saturday (April 2), Howard continues MEAC play against Morgan State on Senior Day. Match time is slated for 2 p.m. at Banneker Recreation Center.
 
Before the match, Howard Director of Tennis Nicholas Askew and the tennis teams will recognize the seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program. The senior day ceremony will commence at 1:45 p.m.
