WASHINGTON (April 1, 2022) – Howard University men's tennis team rolled past conference rival Coppin State (CSU), 6-1, at Banneker Recreation Center.
With the victory, HU improved to 5-5 (3-1 MEAC) on the season while the Eagles dropped to 1-10 (1-3 MEAC).
In doubles competition, rookies
Tory Bailey (Los Angeles) and
Marcel Dawson (Midland, Ga.) defeated CSU's Vansh Kapoor and Dean Waterman, 6-3.
Bailey, reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week, served as the squad's top singles player, knocking off Coppin State's Sergiu Medesan in straight sets (7-6, 6-2).
Sophomore
Hassimiyou Dieng (Dakar, Senegal) and newcomer
Daniel Dunac (Washington) also won their respective singles matches in straight sets.
Senior
Kyle Martin (Kingston, Jamaicia) and second-year Bison
Gabe Knowles (Wind Gap, Pa.) each picked up a victory by default.
Saturday (April 2), Howard continues MEAC play against Morgan State on Senior Day. Match time is slated for 2 p.m. at Banneker Recreation Center.
Before the match, Howard Director of Tennis
Nicholas Askew and the tennis teams will recognize the seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program. The senior day ceremony will commence at 1:45 p.m.
