FAIRFAX, Va. (March 6, 2022) – Howard University women's tennis team dropped its road bout at George Mason, 5-2.
With the setback, HU fell to 2-3 on the season while the Patriots moved to 5-3 overall.
Howard got off to a great start, winning two-out-of-three in doubles play.
Rookies
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) served as the team's top doubles team, defeating Mason's Grace Hashiguchi and Jackie Nannery, 6-3.
Junior
Yemisi Ifederu (London, England) and freshman
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) took down the Patriots' Savannah Cromwell and Frankie Trella, 7-5.
In singles competition, George Mason won five-out-of-six contests with Pegram winning the lone contest for HU over Hannah Yang (6-3, 6-4).
Saturday (March 12), Howard returns to the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's East Capitol Campus in southeast D.C., hosting Villanova at 1 p.m.
