HAMPTON, Va. (March 26, 2022) – Howard University women's tennis team extended its win streak to four after cruising past rival Hampton, 6-1, at Neilson-Screen Stadium in Hampton, Va.
With the victory, HU improved to 6-3 overall while the Lady Pirates fell to 1-10 on the season.
Howard took the early 1-0 match lead after winning a pair of doubles contests. Newcomers
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) defeated Hampton's Viktoria Ljungman and Milena Amedieva, 6-1.
HU continued its dominance in singles play, taking five-out-of-six matches.
Third-year Bison
Alexandra Blackwell (Austin, Texas) took down Hampton's Keri Quillin in three sets (5-7, 7-6, 10-7).
Butcher, Grayson and juniors
Hana El Sherif (Cairo, Egypt) and
Yemisi Ifederu (London, England) each won their respective matches in straight sets.
Next weekend, the women resume MEAC play. Friday (April 1), Howard squares off against Coppin State. The next day (April 2), HU battles Morgan State on Senior Day. Both days are scheduled for 2 p.m. at Banneker Recreation Center.
