CARY, N.C. (March 19, 2022) – Howard University women's tennis team capped off the weekend with a 6-1 victory over North Carolina Central (NCCU) at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round Up in Cary, N.C.
With the victory, HU (5-3) earned its first three-match win streak since 2016 while remaining unbeaten in league play (3-0).
Howard edged out the Eagles in doubles competition, winning two-out-of-three while taking an early 1-0 match lead into singles play. Rookies
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) and
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) served as the club's top doubles team, defeating NCCU's Jade Houston and Lafi Joao, 6-4.
HU dominated singles play, winning five-out-of-six contests.
In the four spot, third-year Bison
Alexandra Blackwell (Austin, Texas) rebounded and defeated the Eagles' Isabelle Exsted in three sets (6-7, 7-5, 1-0 [10-6]).
Butcher, Grayson, senior
Kendall Addison (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior
Hana El Sherif (Cairo, Egypt) all won their respective matches in straight sets.
On March 26, Howard goes on the road to meet Hampton in the Battle of the Real HU. Match time is to be determined.
