CARY, N.C. (March 18, 2022) – Howard University women's tennis team outlasted reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) champions South Carolina State (SCSU), 4-3, in the conference round up in Cary, N.C.
With the victory, HU (4-3) remains unblemished in league play (2-0) while earning its first back-to-back wins of the season.
Despite rookies
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) and
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) defeating SCSU's Rachida Berjane and Ikram Rassif, 6-1, Howard trailed in the match, 1-0, going into singles competition, thanks to the Lady Bulldogs taking two-out-of-three.
Howard rebounded in singles play, winning four-out-of-six contests.
Butcher, Grayson and fellow classmate
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) each won their respective matches.
In the sixth spot, third-year Bison
Hana El Sherif (Cairo, Egypt) blanked South Carolina State's Anabel Aguilar (6-0, 6-0).
Saturday (March 19), HU concludes the weekend with a matchup versus North Carolina Central. Match time is scheduled for noon.
