DOVER, Del. (March 18, 2022) – Howard University women's lacrosse team fell on the road at Delaware State (DSU), 17-8.
With the setback, HU dropped to 1-7 overall while the Lady Hornets picked up its first win of the year (1-6).
Graduate
Lailah Robey (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) led the way with six ground balls and three goals.
After one, the Bison found themselves trailing 4-0 until third-year Bison
Quai Skeete-Ridley (New Carrolton, Md.) scored and put HU on the board, 4-1.
Howard pulled within two after back-to-back goals from Robey and newcomer
Taylor Matthews (Tampa, Fla.), 5-3, but DSU ballooned the margin back to four before intermission, 7-3.
After halftime, HU fell behind, 9-3, but rallied with four unanswered goals and pulled within two once again, 9-7, but the Lady Hornets responded with a pair of late goals to close out the third, 11-7.
DSU pulled away in the fourth, outscoring Howard, 6-1, in the final frame.
Skeete-Ridley recorded two goals and two ground balls in the loss.
For Delaware State, Nardi Rosella produced five goals and three ground balls in the victory.
Sunday (March 20), Howard travels to Norfolk, Va., to face Old Dominion. Match time is slated for noon.
