CARY, N.C. (March 18, 2022) – Howard University men's tennis team took down the Norfolk State (NSU) Spartans, 6-1, at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round Up in Cary, N.C.
With the win, HU improved to 3-4 (2-0 MEAC) on the season while picking up back-to-back victories for the first time this year.
Freshman
Tory Bailey (Los Angeles) and
Marcel Dawson (Midland, Ga.) set the tone for Howard, serving as the club's No. 2 doubles team and defeating NSU's Roosevelt Brown and Ibrahim Abbas, 6-0.
HU would enter singles play with a 1-0 match lead after doubles.
Four Bison won in straight sets during singles competition, led by newcomer
Marcel Dawson (Midland, Ga.) knocking off Massoni (6-2, 6-1).
Dunac and sophomores
Gabe Knowles (Wind Gap, Pa.) and
Pierce Westbrook (New Orleans) also earned two-set victories against the Spartans.
Saturday (March 19), Howard wraps up the round up with MEAC perennial powerhouse South Carolina State. Match time is set for 9 a.m.
