CARY, N.C. (March 17, 2022) – Howard University men's tennis team picked up a big win against North Carolina Central (NCCU), 5-2, on Day One of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round Up in Cary, N.C.
With the victory, HU improved to 2-4 overall while grabbing its first conference win of the season (1-0).
Despite senior
Kyle Martin (Kingston, Jamaica) and sophomore
Gabe Knowles (Wind Gap, Pa.) winning their doubles match against NCCU's Shaka Cristellotti and LaQuon Gilchrist, 6-3, HU trailed the match, 1-0, thanks to the Eagles taking two-out-of-three.
Howard rebounded in singles competition, winning five-out-of-six contests.
Second-year Bison
Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.) and D.C. native newcomer
Daniel Dunac won their matches in three sets while Martin and freshmen
Marcel Dawson (Midland, Ga.) and
Hassimiyou Dieng (Dakar, Senegal) each cruised to victory with two-set sweeps.
HU continues its MEAC Round Up Friday (March 18) against the Norfolk State Spartans. First serve is slated for noon.
