WASHINGTON (February 26, 2022) – Howard University women's tennis team knocked off Loyola (Md.), 5-1, at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's (WTEF) East Capitol Campus in Southeast D.C.
With the win, HU improved to 2-1 on the young season while the Greyhounds suffered their first loss.
Howard swept doubles play, led by newcomers
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) and
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.). The freshmen duo served as the squad's top doubles team, defeating the Greyhounds' Olivia Tracey and Anna Rico, 6-0.
In singles competition, Grayson and Butcher won in straight sets, along with third-year Bison
Hana El Sherif (Cairo, Egypt).
After dropping the first set, 6-7, freshman
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) responded with back-to-back dominant performances to win sets two and three (6-2, 6-3).
On March 5, HU takes on crosstown rival George Washington. First serve at 1 p.m. at the WTEF East Capitol Campus in Southeast D.C.
