WASHINGTON (February 26, 2022) – Howard University women's lacrosse team suffered a setback at the hands of crosstown foe American (AU), 16-3, inside Greene Stadium.
With the loss, HU dropped to 1-3 on the young season while the Eagles improved to 2-2 overall.
AU scored eight unanswered goals to open the match until third-year Bison
Quai Skeete-Ridley stopped the run with a goal, assisted by fellow classmate
Sydney Kates (Cleveland), 8-1.
In the second period, American tallied five goals and held a double-digit advantage at the break, 13-1.
AU's Alyssa Apuzzo scored the lone goal in the third quarter to extend the lead, 14-1.
Both squads tallied two goals apiece in the fourth period. Junior
Josie Mallory (Charlottesville, Va.) and freshman
Taylor Matthews (Tampa, Fla.) each registered a goal in the fourth quarter.
Apuzzo led the Eagles with three goals while Maddy Spratt added four assists and a pair of goals in the victory.
Wednesday (March 2), Howard closes out the homestand with George Mason. Match time is slated for 3 p.m. at Greene Stadium.
