WASHINGTON (February 25, 2022) – Howard University women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Longwood (LU), 4-1, at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's (WTEF) East Capitol Campus in Southeast D.C.
With the loss, HU dropped to 1-1 on the season while the Lancers moved to 2-5 overall.
HU won two-out-of-three in doubles competition, scoring a match point.
Senior
Kendall Addison (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior
Alexandra Blackwell (Austin, Texas) knocked off LU's Zoe Barton and Nina Hederich, 6-2.
Third-year Bison
Yemisi Ifederu (London, England) and rookie
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) defeated Longwood's Maria Saez and Wiktoria Czemy, 6-1.
In singles play, the Lancers won four singles contests to win the match, 4-1.
Saturday (Feb. 26), the Bison return to WTEF to face Loyola (Md.). Match time is slated for 2 p.m.
