NORFOLK, Va. (February 22, 2022) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its women's basketball weekly accolades where Howard University sophomore forward
Anzhane' Hutton (Dallas) grabbed the league's Player of the Week award for the third time this season. The announcement came Tuesday morning.
Overall, the Dallas native has won five MEAC weekly honors this year (three [3] Player of the Week & two [2] Defensive Player of the Week.
"Anzhane' had a slow start early on, but she's starting to come on in the second half of the season," said Howard women's basketball head coach
Ty Grace after yesterday's victory over Coppin State. "I'm very happy for her and glad she won MEAC Player of the Week."
Over the weekend, Hutton averaged a double-double (16.5 points and 11.0 rebounds) while guiding the Bison to a pair of conference wins over Beltway rivals Coppin State (CSU) and Morgan State (MSU).
Saturday (Feb. 19), she posted 14 points and 11 boards against the Lady Bears. Two nights later (Feb. 21), Hutton notched her second straight double-double (19 points and 11 rebounds) and propelled HU to first place in the MEAC standings.
This season, she ranks among the league leaders in several categories, including blocks per game (1.2/4
th) and rebounds per game (7.8/1
st).
Third-year Bison
Brooklynn Fort-Davis (Chicago) earned honorable mention after falling just short of a double-double against CSU, ending with 19 points and nine rebounds in the win.
North Carolina Central guard Diamond Thomas was named MEAC Rookie of the Week while Coppin State redshirt sophomore guard Mossi Staples earned Defensive Player of the Week.
Saturday (Feb. 26), the Bison face North Carolina Central at 2 p.m., in a MEAC matchup inside Burr Stadium on Senior Day.
