BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (February 13, 2022) – Howard University women's lacrosse team fell on the road at Gardner-Webb (GWU), 18-6, and dropped to 0-2 on the young season.
Graduate
Lailah Robey (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) and newcomer
Taylor Matthews (Tampa, Fla.) each registered a pair of goals in the loss.
Trailing, 2-0, Robey got HU on the board, thanks to an assist from third-year Bison
Quai Skeete-Ridley (New Carrollton, Md.), 2-1.
GWU responded with six unanswered goals, but Matthews closed out the quarter with her first goal of the afternoon, 8-2.
Gardner-Webb held the Bison scoreless in the second period while extending its lead to double-digits before intermission, 13-2.
After halftime, HU outscored GWU in the third period, 3-1, but Gardner-Webb finished the contest on a 4-1 run to win, 18-6.
Freshman goalkeeper
Anya Waller (King of Prussia, Pa.) had eight saves in the loss.
Friday (Feb. 18), Howard takes on crosstown opponent UDC at Greene Stadium. Match time is slated for 4 p.m.
