STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (December 9, 2022) – Howard University sophomore
Chase Drewery (Waldorf, Md.) won the triple jump Friday night to cap off a field led attack for the Bison.
Drewery, reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week, claimed his second consecutive triple jump title of the indoor season, leaping 15.13 meters (49'6").
"Our field athletes were outstanding today," said Howard Director of Track
David Oliver after today's performances. "The weight throw, long and triple jump events saw multiple personal bests. Those guys really rallied today and got the job done."
Drewery led a deep jump attack in the triple with sophomores
Kyle Fisher and
Eric Brown, Jr. finishing third (14.85 meters; 48'9") and fourth (14.62 meters; 48'), respectively, in the triple jump.
In the long jump, Brown and Fisher took control as the tandem finished second (7.02 meters; 23'1") and third (7.01 meters; 23'), respectively.
In the throws, senior duo
Ezra Monteiro (New Port, R.I.) and
Nnamdi Olebara (Louisville) both threw personal bests in the weight throw, finishing fourth (15.76 meters; 51'9") and fifth (15.75 meters; 51'8"), respectively.
On the track, seniors
Ja'Leak Perry (Atlanta) and
Kameron Davis (Miami) handled business in the sprints Friday afternoon. Davis ran 8.07 seconds to finish second in the 60-meter hurdles and Perry clocked 6.89 seconds to take runner-up in the 60-meter dash.
HU returns to play January 8 for the Ram Indoor Invitational in Virginia Beach, Va., with VCU as the host.
