NEWARK, N.J. - Howard University swimming and diving traveled to Newark, N.J. to compete in NJIT's tri-meet Saturday afternoon. The Bison had stiff competition but prevailed beating host, Long Island University 134-109 and Sacred Heart University 124.5-103.5.
Outswimming the competition by three seconds, first-year Skylar Debnam (Chandler, Az.) earned the first win for the Bison when she swam a season best (10:52.07) in the 1000-Free.
Freshman standout ZuZu Nwaeze (Colombia, Md.) picked up the second individual win for the Bison in the 200-Free with a time of 1:55.97.
Sophomore Kelsey Roberson (West Orange, N.J.) earned her first top finish this season in the 50–Free recording a season-best 24.28. Runner up and teammate Isabella Fountain (White Plains, N.Y.) was right on her heels reaching the edge and her season best in 24.37 seconds.
Chicago native Michaela Spears raced to the final top individual finish of the event for HU with her time of 2:09.27 in the 200-IM - a season best for the junior.
Remaining strong in the event all season, ZuZu Nwaeze, Jorden Hill (Birmingham, Ala. ), Kelsey Roberson, and Isabella Fountain capped the evening winning the 200-Free Relay (1:37.43).
The Bison take a month hiatus before returning to competition December 2nd at Loyola's H2ounds Invitational in Baltimore, Md.
