WASHINGTON (November 11, 2022) --
Bryce Harris scored a team-high 19 points to lead four players in double figures but it was not enough as George Washington University used balanced scoring and some hot shooting and deft free throw shooting to defeat, Howard 85-75 in a non-conference men's basketball at the Smith Center
The Colonials shot a sizzling 55 percent for the game and connected on 23 of 29 free throw attempts to win the statistical battle. They also won the battle of the boards, 39-22
"I thought we struggled a bit in our transition defense," said Howard Head Coach
Kenneth Blakeney following the game. "GW does a very good job of finding the open shooters in transition. They did all the right things tonight to win the game."
Harris (6-4, 220 Soph guard, Brentwood, NY) has really come in the past two games and had another good all-around game with five rebounds and four assists to go along with his team high points
Jordan Wood (6-9, 205, F, Jr. San Antonio, TX) also had yet another fine game with 16 points.
Steve Settle, III (6-10, 180 R-Jr. G, Glenarden, MD) contributed 15 points, five assists and five rebounds. Jelani Williams (6-5, 201, G, GR, Washington, DC) added 14 points and nine assists as the Bison assisted on 21 of 28 field goals.
"I am really happy with the way we were able to spread the ball," noted Blakeney. "As for Bryce, he is playing the game the right way and you can see the results. And Jordan (Wood) is now beginning to hit shots. We look to him to give us what Kyle (Foster) provided last season."
Howard (1-2) returns home for a 1 pm matchup against Gallaudet on Sunday in Burr Gymnasium. The game will be live streamed.
