Men’s Basketball Rolls Past Gallaudet

Bison move back to .500 on the season

WASHINGTON (November 13, 2022) – The Howard University men's basketball team got the ball rolling with a 108-56 nonconference win over Gallaudet University in a Sunday afternoon matinee inside Burr Gymnasium.

With the victory, HU advanced its record to 2-2 on the season.

D.C. native sophomore guard Marcus Dockery led the Bison in scoring with 18 points, shooting 6-of-9 from field goal range and 4-of-7 from the three-point line.

"I felt good with my performance today," said Dockery. "All my shots were falling and we had a great team win."

With a strong start from Howard, the Bison made their defensive presence known with thirteen steals spread among seven different players. Wasting no time, they held a 45-22 halftime advantage.

"For us to evolve as a team, our defensive consistency in finishing possessions is going to be very important," said Howard men's basketball head coach Kenneth Blakeney. "For the most part, we did that today. But must have more consistency on a defensive end."

Six Bison walked away with two steals on the afternoon.

"As a unit, you can expect a lot of communication on defense," Dockery continued. "We always practice this during the week."

Second-year Bison Elijah Hawkins (Washington) and junior forward Reece Brown (Albany, N.Y.) poured in 15 points and 14 points, respectively. Sophomore guard Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) added 10 points and six rebounds in the win.

Overall, the Bison shot over 62-percent (38-of-61) from the floor while Gallaudet was held to only 41-percent (17-of-42).

Corey Smith led Gallaudet with 16 points in the loss.

Howard looks to win back-to-back games for the first time this season Tuesday (Nov. 15) when they take on James Madison University at Burr Gymnasium. Tipoff at 7 p.m. and streamed on www.hubison.com.
