Bison Drop Tough Bout at No. 4 Duke

Men's Soccer hangs tough against Blue Devils

DURHAM, N.C. (October 4, 2022) – Howard University men's soccer team dropped a tough bout at No. 4 Duke, 2-0, in their final nonconference match of the season.

HU (2-7) hung tough throughout the contest, holding the explosive Blue Devils to a pair of goals.

At the 25-minute mark, Duke's Wayne Frederick, son of Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick, scored and put the Blue Devils ahead at the break, 1-0.

In the second period, Howard kept Duke off the board until an unassisted goal by Jai Bean extended the lead with less than 30 minutes remaining, 2-0.

HU battled to the end but were unable to get a ball passed Duke's Eliot Hamill.

Second-year Bison Bryson Baker (Ellicott City, Md.) led the attack with three shots. Reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week Nigel McCloud (Fayetteville, Ga.) was held without a shot attempt in the setback.

Newcomer JR Gawel (St. Mary's, Md.) held his own against the No. 4 team in the country, finishing with seven saves in a losing effort.

On Oct. 9, HU resumes league play versus LIU. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at Greene Stadium.
