WASHINGTON - There was a sense of relief for the Howard University football team, putting together its best game of the season with a 35-17 win over Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rival Delaware State before an overflow homecoming crowd at Greene Stadium. It was the first MEAC victory of the season, but it has to be quickly forgotten as the Bison have five more opponents to face, starting Saturday (Oct. 29) against Norfolk State in William "Dick" Price Stadium.
FOLLOW THE ACTION
The game will be broadcast on the MEAC Digital Network/ESPN+. Bison fans can catch all the action on the Howard University Sports Network (

Trevin A. Jones,
Nathaniel Henry and
Kendall Lanier will team together to call the game.
LAST TIMEOUT
In the victory over Delaware State, the Bison played well on offense, rushing for almost 300 yards, while on defense, holding the Hornets to under 300 yards and recording a season-high four sacks.
On special teams, there was great coverage and the efforts were helped by graduate punter
Phillip Richards (Melbourne, Australia), who averaged 42 yards per punt and placed two inside the Delaware State 10-yard line.
"It was our best all-around effort of the season," said Howard Head Coach
Larry Scott. "It is something we have been working to get to all season, but it all came together in this game."
But before anyone gets giddy and starts preparing for the Celebration Bowl, Scott cautions, "This is a one game at a time season. When you have six teams, it makes it very competitive. It was good to win our first conference game on homecoming, but we know that it means nothing. We have already flushed it and are focusing on Norfolk State."
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Spartans (1-6 overall, 1-1 in the MEAC) had a bye week after suffering a 28-7 loss to Delaware State in its homecoming two weeks ago. Scott is wary of Norfolk State, which has defeated the Bison three straight, including last year's 45-31 shootout at Greene Stadium.
"Norfolk State has had two weeks to prepare for us, so I fully expect them to be ready for us," said Scott. "They are long and athletic and they are well coached. Their coach has been around the game for a long time and he will have them prepared for us."
BISON HOOVES
Howard leads the MEAC in passing offense and in pass defense, having allowed only six TDs all season...senior quarterback
Quinton Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) leads the conference in passing (121-of-185 for 1,282 yards and eight TDs), junior running back
Jarett Hunter (Mineral, Va.) is fifth in rushing (81 carries, 379, 4 TDs) and graduate wideout
Antoine Murray (Miramar, Fla.) is third in receiving (31 catches for 437 yards, 3 TDs)...the Bison are the least penalized team in the MEAC...Howard leads the series, 18-9, but has not beaten the Spartans since 2017 when it posted a 28-24 victory.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Howard will continue its road trip when it travels to Durham, N.C., to take on the high-flying Eagles of North Carolina Central Saturday (Nov. 5).
