WASHINGTON (October 27, 2022) – Howard University men's soccer team opened its brief home stand with a 3-0 loss against Merrimack (6-6-2, 3-2-1 NEC) at Greene Stadium.
Both squads played evenly throughout the first half, but an unassisted goal from Johan Feilscher put Merrimack (MC) ahead at the break, 1-0.
HU had opportunities after intermission, but the Warriors kept Howard off the board.
At the 82-minute, Juri Schlingman tallied his sixth goal of the season, thanks to an assist by Alessandro Negri, 2-0.
With time dwindling, Schlingmann found Laurie Goddard for his first goal of the year and put the contest out of reach.
Juniors
Peter Gansallo (Bowie, Md.) and
Sammy Oladeji (Arlington, Texas) and sophomore
Bryson Baker (Ellicott City, Md.) each had a pair of shot attempts in the loss.
Freshman goalkeeper
JR Gawel (St. Mary's, Md.) registered four saves in a losing effort.
Sunday (Oct. 30), Howard wraps up its home slate against Fairleigh Dickinson on Senior Day. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Greene Stadium.
