WASHINGTON (September 5, 2021) – Howard University men's soccer team dropped a tough bout against Duquesne (DU), 2-1, at Greene Stadium.
With the setback, HU suffered its first loss of the season (0-1-2) while the Dukes extended its winning streak to three (3-1).
DU had a slight edge in shot attempts, 10-9, but the Bison had opportunities with nine corner kicks.
Moments into the match, Duquesne's Ryan Landry scored off an assist by Zach Mowka and put the Dukes ahead at halftime, 1-0.
After intermission, DU extended the lead with a goal from Maxi Hopfer, who was assisted by Jaime Borjas, 2-0.

Sammy Oladeji (Arlington, Texas) found the back of the net, thanks to an assist from senior forward
Duncan Dunkwu (Germantown, Md.) and cut the deficit to one with less than eight remaining, 2-1.
HU picked up the intensity, but the Dukes escaped with the win.

Emery Simon (Elkhart, Ind.) finished with three saves in a losing effort.
Saturday (Sept. 11), the Bison travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to face Marist. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
