DURHAM, N.C. (September 28, 2021) – Howard University men's soccer team fell on the road at No. 4 Duke, 4-0, in nonconference play.
With the setback, HU dropped to 1-4-2 while the Blue Devils moved to 7-1 overall.
Duke controlled the tempo throughout, led by Thorliefu Ulfarsson. The Iceland native finished with a hat trick (three goals) in the win.
At the 25-minute mark, Ulfarsson put Duke on the board, thanks to an assist from Shakur Mohammed.
Two minutes later, the Blue Devils' Felix Barajas found the back of the net and gave Duke a 2-0 lead into halftime.
After intermission, Ulfarsson scored two more times at the 54' and 72' marks.
Reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week
Bryson Baker (Ellicott City, Md.) took a team-leading two shots in the loss.
In the cage, sophomore
Benjamin Hoesli (Bern, Switzerland) came off the bench and tallying a match-high 11 saves.
Thursday (Sept. 30), the Bison take on Merrimack in league play. Match time is set for 1 p.m. in North Andover, Mass.
