Earley, Bison Grab First NEC Win

Freshman scores twice in victory over Bulldogs

WASHINGTON (September 23, 2021) – Howard University freshman Melea Earley (Whittier, Calif.) scored a pair of goals to grab the program's first-ever conference win as a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC), topping the Bryant (BU) Bulldogs, 2-0, at Greene Stadium.

With the win, HU improved to 2-3 (1-1 NEC) while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-7 (0-2 NEC).

Despite BU outshooting the Bison, 16-8, Howard capitalized on their shot opportunities.

At the 37-minute mark, Earley tallied her third goal of the season and gave HU a 1-0 edge at the break.

Bryant was on the attack after intermission, but graduate Alayah Hightower (Mitchellville, Md.) kept BU off the board. The Maryland native recorded her first shutout of the year, along with four saves in the win.

In the waning moments, newcomer Kyra Bolden (McLean, Va.) found Earley for her second goal of the day (4th overall) and earned their first league win of the season.

Bryant's Katie Cronin took a match-high five shots in the loss.

Sunday (Sep.26), the Bison will take on Wagner at Greene Stadium. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
