WASHINGTON (April 6, 2021) – Howard University junior media, journalism, and film major
Monét Bowen continued the 2020-21 Senior Spotlight series with D.C. native and track teammate
Aaron Coates.
Q: What is your favorite part about track?
A: My favorite part about track is being part of a team environment while getting better every day for competition.
Q: How did you get started in track?
A: My family always loved sports. I started playing baseball, but fell in love with track in third grade.
Q: What kept you motivated?
A: My motivation stemmed from my desire to continually improve myself, which was instilled in me by my family, friends, and coaches.
Q: If you were not competing in track, what other sport would you do?
A: I would definitely be playing volleyball. My sister played all throughout high school and college careers and I've always loved watching her play.
Q: Who is your favorite athlete?
A: I don't really have a favorite athlete but if I had to say one, it's Coach
David Oliver (Olympic Medalist and Howard Director of Track & Field).
Q: What's your favorite memory at Howard?
A: My favorite memory at Howard has to be Homecoming 2019.
Q: Plans after graduation?
A: I've secured a job as a roadway engineer in D.C., and plan on going back to school for my Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
Q: What or who will you miss at Howard?
A: I'll miss my team, friends and coaches.
Q: What advice would you give future Bison?
A: At Howard, you really have to take an initiative in order to be successful.
