Carr Shuts Down the Lady Eagles in Day One of MEAC RoundUp

ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- YaYa Sallee doubled to left-centerfield to plate Camille Navaro for the game-winning run, defeating the North Carolina Central University Lady Eagles, 2-1, Friday afternoon at the City of Orangeburg Athletic Complex.

The Bison improves to 12-12, and 5-8 in the MEAC.

Howard's Kiana Carr pitched a gem for the Bison, shutting down the Lady Eagles, limiting NCCU to one run on one hit. Carr struck out eight batters and gave up no walks in a complete game, recording her eighth win of the season.

The Bison out hit the Lady Eagles 10-to-1 and recorded five doubles.

Camille Navarro paced the Bison with three hits and scored the winning run. Raye Thomas and Ayana Sallee each recorded two hits and an RBI. Thomas recorded two doubles.

How it Happen

North Carolina Central Joirea Dumas broke the ice, taking a 2-2 pitch down the left-field line over the wall, squeezing inside fair territory for the 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.

Howard answered back, stringing together back-to-back doubles to score pinch-runner Ari Whatley to tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Carr retired nine consecutive batters to set Howard up for their seventh-inning rally. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Navarro recorded a single down the left-field line. Sallee brought her home on a walk-off double to left-center for the 2-1 win.
