MATCHUP PREVIEW
Sunday's showdown will be the fourth meeting between HU and DSU this season with the Lady Hornets winning the previous three matchups. The contest was originally scheduled for Feb. 26.
Thursday (March 11), the Bison fell to Delaware State in straight sets (7-25, 23-25, 16-25) at Burr Gymnasium. Redshirt junior
Marcelle Butler (Canton, Ga.) recorded six kills, followed by sophomore
Tamar Wells (Apopka, Fla.) with five kills in the loss.
The next night (March 12), Howard fell again to the Lady Hornets in straight sets (14-25, 18-25, 19-25). Wells had a team-high six kills while producing a .750 hitting percentage in the loss.
On March 22, HU dropped a tough road bout at DSU in four sets (16-25, 26-24, 18-25, 25-27). Juniors
Kailyn Williams (12 digs and 10 kills) and
Milexa Cardona (38 assists and 10 digs) led the Bison, each producing a double-double in the loss.
HOWARD
HU (3-10, 2-9 MEAC) looks to closes out the regular season on a high note.
Wells continues to rank among the league leaders in hitting percentage (.294), sitting eighth overall. Cardona and fellow setter
Kayla Diaz (Nanuet, N.Y.) are among the conference leaders in service aces per set with 0.45 and 0.44, respectively.
DELAWARE STATE
DSU (10-4, 6-3 MEAC) enters Sunday's clash riding a three-match winning streak since their last meeting against the Bison. Delaware State picked up a pair of crucial wins over Morgan State (March 25-26).
Nearly all season long, Delaware State has lead the conference in blocks per set (2.18), led by the trio of conference leader Sydney Lewis (1.10 blocks/set), Erika Lindqvist (0.89 blocks/set) and Mayah Ngundam (0.83 blocks/set).
LAST TIMEOUT
On March 22, HU dropped a tough road bout at DSU in four sets (16-25, 26-24, 18-25, 25-27). Williams (12 digs and 10 kills) and Cardona (38 assists and 10 digs) led the Bison, each producing a double-double, while newcomer
Jennifer Bolden (Los Angeles) registered a season-high 14 kills.
