Volleyball Goes to Delaware State for Final Road Test

Bison look to keep momentum going against Lady Hornets

WASHINGTON (March 21, 2021) – Howard University women's volleyball team goes to Dover, Del., to face Delaware State (DSU) in their final road test of the season. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside Memorial Hall.

MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
Monday's showdown will be the third meeting between HU and DSU this season with the Lady Hornets winning the previous two matchups. The contest was originally scheduled for Feb. 25.
 
Thursday (March 11), the Bison fell to Delaware State in straight sets (7-25, 23-25, and 16-25) at Burr Gymnasium. Redshirt junior Marcelle Butler (Canton, Ga.) recorded six kills, followed by sophomore Tamar Wells (Apopka, Fla.) with five kills in the loss.
 
The day night (March 12), Howard fell again to the Lady Hornets in straight sets (14-25, 18-25, 19-25). Wells had a team-high six kills while producing a .750 hitting percentage in the loss.
 
HOWARD
 
HU (3-9, 2-8 MEAC) looks to build momentum from Friday's home win versus Morgan State (MSU). Howard is seeking their first road win of the season against the Lady Hornets.
 
Wells continues to rank among the league leaders in hitting percentage (.277), sitting eighth overall. Setters Kayla Diaz (Nanuet, N.Y.) and Milexa Cardona (Kissimmee, Fla.) are among the conference leaders in service aces per set with 0.45 and 0.41, respectively.
 
DELAWARE STATE
 
DSU (7-4, 3-3 MEAC) enters Monday's clash looking to bounce back after consecutive losses against Coppin State (March 18-19). With the regular season dwindling, Delaware State has only three league contests remaining: two versus Morgan State (at MSU 3/25; vs. MSU 3/26) and one at HU (3/28).
 
Delaware State leads the conference in blocks per set (2.10), led by the trio of Sydney Lewis (1.08 blocks/set), Erika Lindqvist (0.94 blocks/set) and Mayah Ngundam (0.76 blocks/set).
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On March 18-19, HU split their back-to-back home contests against Morgan State (MSU).
 
Thursday (March 18), the Bison fell in four against MSU (14-25, 22-25, 25-15, 19-25) inside Burr Gymnasium. Junior Kailyn Williams (Arlington, Texas) led the way with 12 kills and eight digs while Butler added 11 kills and seven digs in the loss.
 
The next night (March 19), Howard took down the Lady Bears in straight sets (25-14, 25-15, 25-23) while snapping a seven-match slide. Williams led the way, fall just shy of a double-double (11 kills and nine digs).
 
UP NEXT
 
Howard closes out the regular season Sunday (March 28) versus DSU. Match time is slated for 3 p.m. inside Burr Gymnasium.
