DOVER, Del. (March 12, 2021) – Howard University women's volleyball team dropped its road contest at Delaware State (DSU) in three sets (14-25, 18-25, 19-25).
Second-year middle blocker
Tamar Wells (Apopka, Fla.) had a team-high six kills while producing a .750 hitting percentage in the loss.
DSU grabbed the upper hand after taking game one, 14-25, but the Bison fought back in set two.
Junior
Kailyn Williams (Arlington, Texas) put HU ahead early in game two, 7-6, but the Lady Hornets scored the next 11-out-of-18 and forced Howard to take a timeout, 13-17. After a brief break, Howard pulled within one, 18-19, but Delaware State closed out the second frame with seven straight points to take a 2-0 match lead.
HU scored the first three points in set three, but the Lady Hornets responded with a 11-5 run and never looked back to take the match.
Junior
Milexa Cardona (Kissimmee, Fla.) registered match-high 21 assists.
For DSU (6-2, 2-1 MEAC), Sydney Lewis had a match-best eight kills while setters Jelena Dukic and Alayna Lacy combined for 33 assists in the win.
On March 18-19, Howard closes its home slate with another pair of league matches versus Morgan State. Both nights are scheduled for 6 p.m. at Burr Gymnasium.
