WASHINGTON (March 11, 2021) – Howard University women's volleyball team fell to Delaware State (DSU) in straight sets (7-25, 23-25, 16-25) at Burr Gymnasium.
Redshirt junior
Marcelle Butler (Canton, Ga.) had a team-leading six kills, followed by second-year middle blocker
Tamar Wells (Apopka, Fla.) with five kills in a losing effort.
Junior
Kailyn Williams (Arlington, Texas) opened the contest with a kill, but the Lady Hornets responded with eight straight points and grabbed the opening frame, 7-25.
Newcomer
Ariel Finch (Los Angeles) delivered a kill and tied the contest midway through set two, 13-13, but DSU scored seven consecutive points to regain the upper hand and take a commanding 2-0 match advantage.
Both squads went back-and-forth early on in game three, but DSU pulled away to win the match in straight sets.
Sophomore
Kayla Diaz (Nanuet, N.Y.) registered a match-best 20 assists in the loss.
For DSU (5-2, 1-1 MEAC), Mayah Ngundam had a team-best nine kills in the win.
On March 18-19, Howard closes its home slate with another pair of league matches versus Morgan State. Both nights are scheduled for 6 p.m. at Burr Gymnasium.
