WASHINGTON (February 12, 2021) – Howard University women's volleyball team dropped their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener at Morgan State (MSU) in straight sets (20-25, 18-25, 20-25) inside the Hill Field House.
Sophomore
Tamar Wells (Apopka, Fla.) and freshman
Jennifer Bolden (Los Angeles) paved the way with nine kills apiece.
Both squads went back-and-forth early in the first set until MSU took control midway through and finished game one with a .237 hitting percentage.
Howard took a quick 1-0 advantage in game two, thanks to a kill from junior
Ana Williams (Baker, La.), but the Lady Bears responded with 13 kills in the set while hitting a match-best .346.
Morgan State led set three from start-to-finish despite hitting only. 186.
Second-year setter
Kayla Diaz (Nanuet, N.Y.) had a team-best 17 assists while, defensively, newcomer
Amari Patterson (Waukegan, Ill.) added 12 digs in a losing effort.
For Morgan State, Tylar Roberson fell just shy of a double-double (17 kills and nine digs) in the win.
Howard continues league play with a home-and-home two-match series against Coppin State. Thursday's (Feb. 18) bout is set for 6 p.m. in Baltimore, followed by a Friday (Feb. 19) night showdown at The Burr, slated at 6 p.m.
