Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Three Bison finished in double figures, as the Howard women's basketball team defeated UMBC, 74-61, Tuesday night at Burr Gymnasium.
Sophomore guard
Destiny Howell scored a career-high 22 points, and senior forward
Krislyn Marsh dominated the glass with a game-high ten rebounds. Sophomore forward
Anzhane' Hutton added 11 points and six rebounds, and junior guard
Iyanna Warren finished with 10 points and six assists.
Howard and UMBC traded baskets early. The Bison ended the first half with a slim 36-35 lead, but halftime invigorated the Bison. Howard opened the second half on a 14-4 run to take a 50-39 lead with 4:39 left in the third quarter. Entering the fourth quarter, the Bison led 58-46. The Bison and Retrievers traded baskets in the fourth quarter, but the Retrievers would only get within nine points in the final period.
Howard shot 40.5 percent from the floor and held UMBC to 35 percent. The Bison were locked in from the charity stripe, sinking 8-of-9 (88.9 percent) from the free-throw line.
The Bison will be back in action Friday, December 17, as they host the University of Memphis Tigers at Burr Gymnasium for a 5:00 pm tipoff.
