Houston, TX -- The Howard University women's basketball team dropped their first official matchup of the season against the Houston Cougars on Tuesday night at the Farititta Center. 

Howard's Anzhane' Hutton gave the Bison a 12-11 lead with 4:39 left in the first quarter, after making a three-point play the old fashion way. The Cougars went on a 12-6 run to close the quarter, taking a 24-18 advantage into the second frame. 

In the second quarter, the Bison went cold, making only one field goal from the floor against a tenacious Houston defense. As a result, Howard was outscored 36-13 in the second and third quarters combined. 

The Coogs took advantage of the Bison miscues recording 25 points off of Howard's 24 turnovers. 

Howard fought in the last stanza before Houston pulled away, defeating the Bison 80-48. 

Hutton led the Bison offensively, recording nine points [3-of-8 from the floor] and bringing down five rebounds. Kaniyah Harris recorded a team-high seven rebounds. Iyanna Warren dished out a game-high four assists. 

Howard concludes their Texas road swing in Denton, Texas, on Nov. 11 versus North Texas, for a scheduled 7 pm CT tipoff.
