Men’s Basketball Comes Up Short At Mount St. Mary’s

The Mount down HU with game-winner

EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 30, 2021) – Howard University graduate Tai Bibbs (Chicago) delivered a go-ahead three-pointer with 17 ticks remaining, but left too much time for Mount St. Mary's' (MSM) DeAndre Thomas to drilled the game-winner as time expired to down the Bison, 72-70, at Knott Arena.

With the loss, HU fell to 4-4 overall while The Mount improved to 3-5 on the season.

Four Bison reached double figures, led by reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week Elijah Hawkins with 19 points.

MSM jumped out to an early 10-2 lead, but the Bison responded with an 11-0 run after layup from Bibbs, 13-10.

Both squads went back-and-forth through the first period until the Bison held a seven-point advantage with more than three minutes left before intermission, 26-19.

The Mount clawed their way back and cut the halftime deficit to two, 33-31, thanks to a jump shot by Jalen Benjamin.

After intermission, MSM regained momentum and held a seven-point lead with 10 minutes remaining, 53-46.

Howard battled back and took a slim lead after a rare four-point play from graduate Kyle Foster (Hampton, Va.), 58-57.

For the final six minutes, both clubs continued the seesaw affair in the waning moments, including a pair of big shots from Bibbs and Thomas.

Foster posted 16 points off the bench while Bibbs netted 12 points. Graduate Randall Brumant (Houston) added 11 points in the loss.

For MSM, Benjamin led all scorers with 21 points. Thomas ended the night with 15 points, including the game-winning trey ball at the buzzer.

Saturday (Dec. 4), HU takes on crosstown rival American inside Burr Gymnasium. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
