BALTIMORE (October 6, 2021) – Howard University men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker in OT at UMBC, 2-1.
At the 13-minute mark, senior forward
Duncan Dunkwu (Germantown, Md.) found D.C. native freshman
Amir Acree for his first collegiate goal and put the Bison ahead, 1-0.
Howard held the upper hand throughout until UMBC's Ryan Becher forced overtime at the 87-minute mark, 1-1.
In OT, the Retrievers' Taylor Calheira scored the match-winning goal to secure the comeback win for UMBC, 2-1.
Dunkwu had a team-leading three shots while sophomore goalkeeper
Benjamin Hoesli (Bern, Switzerland) registered a match-high four saves in the loss.
Sunday (Oct. 10), the Bison take on Northeast Conference opponent Long Island. Match time is 2 p.m.
