BROOKLYN, N.Y. (October 10, 2021) – Howard University men's soccer team fell on the road at conference-leading Long Island (LIU), 3-1.
HU was unable to slow down LIU's Emil Jaaskelainen. The league leader in goals added to his total, finishing with a hat trick (three goals) in the win.
Less than five minutes into the match, senior
Duncan Dunkwu (Germantown, Md.) found rookie
Amir Acree (Washington) for his second career goal and gave HU a 1-0 advantage.
At the 28-minute mark, Jaaskelainen tied the contest, thanks to assists from Javier Rehberger and Assane Ben Fall, 1-1.
More than five minutes later, Jaaskelainen tallied his second goal of the match to put the Sharks ahead before intermission, 2-1.
After halftime, Jaaskelainen scored an insurance goal at the 62-minute mark.
Senior
Malik Saleh (Memphis, Tenn.) took a team-leading three shots in the loss.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Benjamin Hoesli (Bern, Switzerland) posted six saves.
Tuesday (Oct. 12), the Bison travel to Philadelphia for their final nonconference match of the season at LaSalle. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
