WASHINGTON (October 21, 2021) – Howard University women's soccer team defeated Saint Francis (Pa.), 2-0, on Senior Night at Greene Stadium.
HU improved to 5-5-2 (4-3-1 NEC) overall with the victory and remains tied for fourth place in the conference standings.
Howard outshot the Red Flash, 14-11, led by freshman
Melea Earley (La Mirada, Calif.) with four shot attempts.
Less than 10 minutes into the contest, senior
Arianna Morgan (Oklahoma City) found Earley for her seventh goal of the season and put the Bison ahead, 1-0.
After taking the halftime lead, senior
Victoria Thornton (Plainfield, Ill.) capitalized on her penalty kick opportunity and extended the Bison's lead, 2-0.
HU's backline recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time since November 2019, fourth shutout overall this season.
Graduate goalkeeper
Alayah Hightower (Mitchellville, Md.) produced five saves in the shutout win.
