WASHINGTON (October 18, 2021) – Howard University women's soccer team ended nonconference play in a rare home tie against nearby rival Navy.
As a result, HU (4-5-2) picked up its second tie of the season and first home tie at Greene Stadium since October 2017 (vs. Prairie View A&M, 1-1).
Both squads were on the attack throughout, combining for 34 shots attempts.
For Howard, they took 19 tries, but only four on goal. Newcomer
Kyra Bolden (McLean, Va.) had a match-leading six shot attempts while fellow classmate
Melea Earley (La Mirada, Calif.) added four tries of her own.
Defensively, the backline withstood Navy's late charge with four shots in two OTs. Graduate goalkeeper
Alayah Hightower (Mitchellville, Md.) recorded a match-high saves in the tie.
Thursday (Oct. 21), the Bison host Saint Francis (Pa.) for Senior Night. Match time is set for 7 p.m. inside Greene Stadium.
