WASHINGTON (October 1, 2021) – Howard University women's volleyball team rolled past Norfolk State (NSU) in straight sets (25-14, 25-9, 25-14) after recording a season-high 19 service aces.
Senior
Busisiwe Banda (Cedar Park, Texas) led the way with a match-leading 11 service aces.
NSU took an early 3-2 lead in the opening set, but the Bison responded with five consecutive points to gain the upper hand and never looked back in game one, 25-14.
HU led from start-to-finish in set two, thanks to 9-0 run to open the game. Howard eclipsed a match-high .591 hitting percentage, including 13 kills, and took a commanding 2-0 match lead.
Like the first two sets, HU dominated from the start to win their fifth match of the season.
Overall, Howard registered a .375 hitting percentage throughout the night. Freshman outside hitter
Bria Woodard (Missouri City, Texas) registered 12 kills while producing a .407 hitting percentage in the win.
For NSU (4-10, 0-3 MEAC), Paola Matos had a team-leading seven kills in the loss.
On Oct. 8, HU (5-10, 2-1 MEAC) begins its five-match road swing against Morgan State. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Baltimore.
