Volleyball Takes Down Lady Bears

Bison extend winning streak to three

BALTIMORE (October 8, 2021) – Howard University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to three after taking down Morgan State (MSU) in straight sets (25-19, 25-17, 25-16) at the Hill Field House.

Second-year Bison Jennifer Bolden (Los Angeles) led the way with a team-leading nine kills while producing a .471 hitting percentage.

MSU (3-15, 1-3 MEAC) scored the first three points in set one, forcing the Bison to call a timeout. After the brief intermission, HU found a rhythm and took their first lead after a kill from junior Alex Smith (New Orleans), 7-6.

Both squads were deadlocked at eight apiece until the Bison went on an 8-2 run to create separation to win game one, 25-19.

Howard never looked back after taking game one, dominating sets two and three to win their third consecutive match.

Smith finished the night with eight kills while registering a .400 hitting percentage. Junior Kayla Diaz (Nanuet, N.Y.) had a match-high 32 assists and six digs in the win.

For Morgan State, Madison Grace recorded a team-best 10 kills in the loss.

Sunday (Oct. 10), the Bison (6-10, 3-1 MEAC) return to Baltimore to face rival Coppin State. Match time is set for 3 p.m. inside the PEC Arena.
