WASHINGTON (August 20, 2020) – Adora Curry is a proud member of Howard University's Inaugural Women's Lacrosse Team, which became the first HBCU Women's Lacrosse Team in NCAA history. She played three seasons (1997-99) for the Bison.
In 1999, Curry graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film where she spent her life breaking down barriers and paving the way for others.
After The Mecca, Curry became the executive director of the Washington Inner City Lacrosse Foundation (WINNERS Lacrosse), a D.C. based nonprofit organization that provides underserved youth communities the opportunity to learn about the game, its history, and the life skills associated with its Native American roots.
During her time at WINNERS, Curry served on the board of the U.S. Lacrosse Association where she played a critical role in establishing policies and programs to diversify the sport while being more accessible to players from all walks of life. She has been featured on the Disney Channel and has presented at national conferences about diversity and inclusion in lacrosse.
After 10 years of coaching and leading at WINNERS, Curry traded in her lacrosse stick and relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas. Her first order of business was to help establish the Little Rock Lacrosse Club. Since then, she has earned a Master of Arts degree in Rhetoric and Technical Writing from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Although her days on the lacrosse field are over, her experiences on the HU lacrosse team are the driving force behind her passions today. Curry uses her influence, talents, and voice to advocate for diversity, inclusion, and respect.
She currently works in higher education and serves as the first Black woman on two national governing bodies in the sector. She is also committed to causes that support women's empowerment, especially for single mothers like herself.
Despite her life-long love for lacrosse, Curry is an enthusiastic "soccer mom" of two boys, Dominic and EJ. Naturally, she has learned to coach winning youth soccer teams too.
