BOWIE, Md. (July 26, 2026) – Competitive Edge EQ unveiled its 2026 Community Legacy Award winners where Howard University saw a pair of Bison recognized. The event was held Saturday (July 25) at the Bowie State University Student Center Grand Ballroom in Bowie, Md. The evening was dedicated to honoring transformational leaders, changemakers and student-athletes whose impact extends far beyond sports.
 
Dr. Lisa Daniels received the inaugural Beyond the Game Award while Ed Hill Jr., alongside Pastor John K. Jenkins, Sr., earned the James Brown Spirit of Service Award.
 
"Our mission is rooted in developing emotionally intelligent student-athletes and leaders who understand that success is about far more than wins and losses," said Competitive Edge EQ leadership. "These honorees represent excellence in service, mentorship, education, mental wellness, leadership and community impact. Their work continues to inspire future generations."
 
Dr. Daniels was recognized her extraordinary work through Howard Athletics Counseling Services and her unwavering commitment to supporting the mental health and well-being of student-athletes. She joined the Bison Family nearly a decade ago, continuing to amply the University's core values of excellence, leadership, service and truth.
 
Hill, CSC (College Sports Communicator) Hall of Famer and retired Howard Sports Information Director, was honored for his lifetime of leadership, mentorship and service to student-athletes and the DMV community. He continues to cultivate student-athletes who reflect Howard's core mission to develop leaders who will change the world.
 
Other notable recipients included Christy Winters-Scott and Jan Adams receiving the Diane Richardson Community Impact Award.
 
Competitive Edge EQ also recognized the life and legacy of Dr. Clyde M. Doughty, Jr., former Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation at Bowie State, with a special Legacy Award in tribute to his extraordinary leadership, mentorship and lifelong advocacy for student-athletes and HBCU athletics.
 
The Community Legacy Awards celebrate individuals whose leadership, service, advocacy and commitment to emotional intelligence and student-athlete development continue to positively shape communities throughout the Washington Metropolitan region and beyond.
 
Competitive Edge EQ continues to serve student-athletes, families, coaches, educators and organizations through workshops, mentorship programs, emotional intelligence development and advocacy designed to help student-athletes thrive both on and off the field.
