WASHINGTON (July 9, 2020) – Shauna-Lee Ruglass was a four-year member of the Howard University women's basketball team (2000-04) where the squad won a pair of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Regular Season Titles (2001 & 2002) while earning a berth to the 2001 NCAA Tournament.
After graduating from The Mecca, Ruglass was Certificated in Personal Development Coaching from The Coaching and Positive Psychology (CaPP) Institute (2014) and Facilitative Leadership from Interaction Institute for Social Change (2016). A year later (2017), the proud HU Alum received her master's degree in Clinical Social Work with a certificate in Urban Leadership from Simmons College in Boston.
She brings over 13 years of experience in positive youth development, alumni engagement, strategic planning, program design with a strong focus on mental health, wellness, and healing focused initiatives.
Currently, Ruglass serves as the Chief of Staff at YouthBuild USA, a non-profit organization that provides education, counseling and job skills to unemployed young American adults, generally high school dropouts.
She brings a systems based, culturally competent, and trauma-sensitive perspective to her work. Ruglass has been pushing for an increase in Mental Health and Wellness awareness with a strong emphasis on self-care when it comes to those standing with and helping those closest to the problem; a true advocate for the voiceless, she has spent her professional career working to bring evidence-based interventions and programming to marginalized communities and individuals.
Ruglass is the proud mother to her 15-year-old son Bryce Chance, who is a 6-6 freshman at Dexter Southfield in Brookline, Mass., and a member of the varsity basketball team.
During her leisure time, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and practicing gratitude.
